English Cafe Leafcup
Have you heard of English Cafes? They are similar to normal cafes, in that you sit around a table and drink, but you share a table with other people to have a conversation. Only English language is used for the conversations, even between Japanese customers. People from all over the world (Australia, Europe, Asia, America, and many other countries) get together at Leafcup. The Leafcup staff are also international. Let's improve our English in an international atmosphere together!

I can't speak English. Is that okay?
Of course! The most important thing to improve English is communication. Both Leafcup staff and the other customers support each other in conversation. You might be nervous at first, but you get used to it very quickly. Leafcup also has English classes everyday. Compared to other English schools, the class fee is set very cheap. So we also advise you learn English at class first then join the cafe.

Is it okay to come alone?
Of course it is! Most of our customers come to the cafe by themselves and have fun talking to our foreign staff and other customers.

What is the average age of the customers who come to Leafcup?
The ages of our customers range from high school students all the way up to the retired office workers. On the weekends, the customers are mostly, but not limited to, company workers who are at the age of 20 to 30. Don’t worry; we welcome people of all ages and create the atmosphere that is very relaxing and fun for everyone, so please feel free to join us!

Is Japanese prohibited at this English Cafe?
When you join one of the conversation tables, we prefer you to speak only in English. Of course, our Japanese staff can give you more detailed explanation for things that may be unclear for you. And if it can’t be helped, using a Japanese word or two is perfectly fine. So don’t hesitate to participate!

How well do people speak English at the cafe? Can beginners also participate?
English levels vary from customer to customer. People from Advanced/Business English abilities to complete beginners come and enjoy themselves here at Leafcup. Total Beginners are always very welcome so feel free to stop by and take on a conversation challenge.

Are tables available by conversation levels?
We don’t usually offer different chat tables for different levels. Our staff takes care of you so that you can enjoy the conversation, so do not hesitate coming to the cafe as a beginner. Also, we have an English school here at Leafcup, with 90 minute lessons taught by different levels. The lesson fee is only 10,000 yen a month.

How many people are there on one table?
It depends on when you come to the cafe. When it’s not crowded, you can have a one-to-one conversation with our chat host. We operate 2 or 3 conversation tables, and when it is crowded there can be up to 8 people on one table, but on an average day there are around 5 or 6 customers per table.
