Hi everyone!
My name is Nana. Ifm from a small town called New Haven, Connecticut in the United States. I have lived in many places, including Tokyo; Seattle, Washington; Cambridge, Massachusetts; Carbondale, Illinois; Washington, D.C.; and New Haven, Connecticut. This time, Ifm here in Japan as a visiting researcher at Sophia University.
While in Japan, I try to involve myself in many social activities. I am a member of a running club and dance school now. I also hope to learn Japanese cooking and tea ceremony.
Back home, it took me a while to figure out what I really like to do. I have studied international politics, economics, and business, followed by intercultural relations and sociolinguistics. While my interests are still broad, I have settled in the field of cultural anthropology ( •Ά‰»l—ήŠw) at Yale University, where Ifm working on my Ph.D. I am interested in broad issues of gender, family, company, society, and globalization (modernity) in Japan and America. Here in Japan, I am hoping to historicize and understand the significance of generational shifts occurring in contemporary Japan, in particular a generation of baby-boomers and their historical consciousness.
With my broad interests, I am very much interested in meeting with you all and sharing our perspectives on various things. I have taught both English and Japanese previously, and I hope I can be helpful for you to improve your English while at Leafcup cafe.
I very much look forward to meeting you soon!
