Hi! My Name is Scott, I'm from Chicago, USA. In my 20's I played bass guitar in various bands all over the country. Since I was a broke musician most of the time, I taught guitar, deejayed, bartended, renovated old houses, managed a club, and maybe strangest of all, ended up being an accountant for a friend's business. After a few years of doing that, I was hired as an IT consultant for a small firm in Chicago and worked with several international companies. As a result, I was going to Europe often, and traveling became a passion.
Also, Chicago is an international city, I had many friends from other countries, and always wanted to try and live outside the US. Finally, I made a decision to come to Japan and try to learn Japanese. Why Japan? Well, in 2005, I came here on vacation, and visited Kyoto, Osaka, and Tokyo. I found Japan to be such an amazing country, both modern and ancient at the same time. So, I thought it would be a challenge to try and see how much Kanji and Keigo I could fit into my head. Now, as I am gradually able understand and communicate more, it becomes even more interesting and fun. Even though I still confuse "wa" and "ga", my Japanese friends always give me encouragement.Prior to coming to Japan I tutored underprivileged children for five years, and as a teacher I am patient but believe in challenging my students to do their best. When learning, I think that it's important to overcome your fear, and even if you make mistakes, it's better than not trying at all!
Interesting things
In April, I placed third at the Annual Tokyo Japanese Language School Speech Contest.
Recently, I played guitar and sang at the Sakura Shogakko in Higashi Nagasaki, in English and Japanese. Those children were unbelievably cute!
I love yoga, meditation, and exercise. I taught a class on basic meditation.
I love Karaoke, and I always pick the same Queen song, even though I can't sing it.
I learned Salsa dancing in America, but I still dance like I'm being electrocuted.
