Hey! My name is Tara. I was born and raised in New York City, and Tokyo is the
first place I have been to that I love just as much as my old home town. In
fact, I often think that I like Tokyo better, because it is so clean, there is
so much attention to detail, and everyone is so polite and friendly. Which is
not to say that New Yorkers are unfriendly--we have a very bad reputation that I
don't believe we deserve! I am here studying how to perform the traditional
form of Noh theater--which I have found is not very popular with Japanese
people. I have to admit, sometimes I think it is a little boring to watch too,
but I love learning how to do it.
I have become quite lazy since I came to Japan, but I used to study many different kinds of dance--ballet, tap, jazz, and modern. Now, pretty much the only dancing I do is alone in my apartment at two in the morning! Otherwise, I have been spending lots of time here exploring various neighborhoods. I especially enjoy wandering around supermarkets, staring at all the different foods and imagining the crazy things I could cook. Food, by the way, is one of my favorite topics, and I am always searching for restaurant recommendations and new foods to try, since I will really eat anything--at least once.
I graduated from college in the States in May, and had been planning to move to Berlin, when all of a sudden, in the middle of the summer, I changed my mind and decided to come here. It is the best choice I have ever made, even though I was completely unprepared for it. As a result, I am trying very hard to learn Japanese, but I can guarantee that you speak better English, so I hope to see you at Leafcup!
